A loud explosion rocked central Kabul on Tuesday and a thick plume of black smoke could be seen rising from the vicinity of the sprawling US embassy in the Afghan capital, Reuters witnesses said.
However the US embassy said they were not affected by the blast. The NATO military coalition also said they were unaffected.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Afghan Taliban last Tuesday announced the start of its so-called spring offensive, even as the government in Kabul seeks to bring the insurgents back to the negotiating table to end their drawn-out conflict.
