Director of the Department of Meteorology Sarath Premalal says that the warm temperatures experienced would prevail till the monsoon rains start in May. This is a good example of the warm weather the country is experiencing at present. The Met Department says that temperatures in the Jaffna and Anuradhapura Districts could rise up to 36 degrees Celsius.

The department forecasts the temperatures in the Ratnapura District to rise upto 35 degrees while temperatures in the Batticaloa, Colombo and Galle Districts could rise up to a maximum of 33 degrees. This is the manner in which the extreme heat has affected a number of areas in the country. Please watch video.

He added that with the South Western monsoonal conditions coming into effect at the end of May, the winds that blow across the country will increase, accompanied by rain which will reduce the warm weather situation to a certain extent.
