At a media briefing held in Colombo on Tuesday, April 12, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera commented on the Colombo Port City Project.
Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ajith P. Perera stated that the concept behind the Port City Project is not Mahinda Rajapaksa’s and that it was initially proposed by Ranil Wickeremesinghe in 2001.
He added that the they have the chance now to recommence the project now as they removed the condition which was applied to the lands. Also, the China – India Joint Company will be having the right for this, and the land will be given on a 99-year lease.
When a question was raised if the company has been established, he noted that it hasn’t been formed yet, but the Prime Minister had reached agreements in China.
Explaining further, he noted that any sort of compensations should not be paid and also the racing track removed as it will affect the environment.
