Questions raised over rising number of ministers in Parliament

Questions were raised in Parliament on Wednesday with regard to the rising number of ministers and deputy ministers.

Speaking in Parliament MP Wimal Weerawansa questioned how ministers are being sworn in on a daily basis in violation of the constitution. MP Weerawansa also called on the government to reveal the exact number of cabinet ministers, state ministers, Deputy Ministers at present.

Responding to the query, UNP Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara noted that Parliament has granted approval for a total of 95 ministers. He stated that the number has not been reached. He also called on Wimal Weerawansa to cross over because of this.

A similar sentiment was also echoed by Leader of the House, Minister Lakshman Kiriella.q
