Investigations launched over Chavakachcheri weapons discovery

Police say that extensive investigations have commenced into the discovery of a suicide vest and other explosives from a house which comes under the jurisdiction of the Chavakachcheri Police in Jaffna.

According to the Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunesekera, the owner of the house has been apprehended in connection with the incident.

It was reported that the suspect was apprehended after he had fled the scene aboard a lorry.

A statement by the Police Media Spokesperson reads that three parcels containing TNT explosives, 100 9 mm bullets and 04 side chargers were discovered.

In addition, two battery packs used to detonate side chargers were also discovered. Police suspect that the seized weapons may have been hidden away during the war.
