Spells of showers of over 75 mm will occur in several areas on the country, says the Department of Meteorology.
The drops of rain experienced in many parts of the country on Monday, March 28, was a blessing to many Sri Lankans as the showers marked the end of two months of dry weather.
Moneragala recorded the highest rainfall of 124.7 mm of rain in the 24-hour period that ended at 08:30 on Tuesday, March 29.
Other areas are as follows….
Lakshapana – 64.5 mm
Castlereagh Dam – 44.5 mm
Upper Kotamale – 48.4 mm
Maussakele – 52 mm
However, according to K.H.M.S. Premalal (Director – Department of Meteorology), the humidity will decrease once the inter-monsoon rains are experienced during the month of April.
Two sluice gates of the Polgolla Barrage were opened, following the heavy rainfall experienced in the Central Hills. Those living below the barrage are requested to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, fifteen houses located down Mahinda Mawatha in Nuwara Eliya are being threatened by a landslide. According to the locals, this situation has arisen due to the improper drainage system of the school located above the housing scheme.
