The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that it is facing a crisis as a result of the dry weather conditions and technical errors in the electricity system. Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera said that, they are hoping to avoid power cuts by effectively managing electricity.

The Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers Union had stressed the importance of at least having one hour power cuts everyday as hydro power generation has reduced.

President of the Engineers Union of the CEB, Athula Wanniarachchi said that failing to do this would result in a much worse condition in the future.
