President Maithripala Sirisena, speaking in Medirigiriya, said that the farmers in the country will not be made helpless for political gains. The president was speaking at an event to present land ownership deeds to the agrarian families that will be settled in Bisopura, Medirigiriya under the Moragahakanda – Kalu Ganga project.
Twenty eight (28) families were presented with deeds on Saturday.
President Sirisena stated that 12,000 such families will be settled in the future.
He further stated that the policy of the new government saw a number of measures being taken with regard to agriculture, but some matters come under criticism. So it must be made clear that what must be done is not to please the farming community for political gains: but to strengthen the economy and create a healthy society.
“The people of this country are being made victims of catch-phrases”, charged the President, who pointed out that one must not make any political advantage under its guise.
