Six individuals who were arrested for alleged misconduct under the influence of alcohol, in Yatiwilla, Mawathagama, have been released on bail. The Police Media Unit stated that the suspects were released on bail after they were subjected to a medical test.
A tense situation arose with the arrest of the suspects, as residents marked their protest by burning tyres and blocking the Kandy- Kurunagala Main Road.
Police stated that the group of people were arrested for the unruly behaviour on the road while under the influence of alcohol, by holding the road in defiance, upon their return from a wedding ceremony.
However, residents in the area claim that police had carried out the arrest in an unjust manner. According to the Police Media Spokersperson the acting ASP in charge was directed to quell the protest.
