The Department of National Zoological Gardens says that steps have been taken to establish two conservation centres. The centres will come under its purview.
Acting director general, Dhammika Malsinghe stated that rare and endangered animals will be protected at these centres. In addition, steps have been taken to scientifically breed the domestic and foreign species.
She added the research activities carried out within the Department will be broadened this year.
