Contention in political circles over budding new political party

The subject of the formation of a new political party including several opposition MPs, continues to court controversy in political circles.

There are indications that the symbol of this party will be a flower bud which already belongs to a  political party called the “Ape Sri Lanka Nidahas Peramuna

When News1st made inquiries, it was revealed that this party arose from the Sri Lanka National Front which contested at the concluded general election.

Speaking to News1st, the leader of the party Wimal Geeganage admitted that a change in the party leadership was imminent.

He refused to specify if either Basil Rajapaksa, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa or Mahinda Rajapaksa were in line to take over the leadership of the party but confessed that Mahinda Rajapaksa had visited him and  had spoken with him in closed door negotiations.

“It could be one of them. We shall see what the future holds. It won’t be too long into the future. We shall entrust this to the foreseeable future.” he said
