Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa convened a meeting of SLFP local government representatives in Negombo on Sunday February 14.
A group including the former president, Basil Rajapaksa, Namal Rajapaksa, Dinesh Gunawardena and Tissa Vitharana, attended the meeting held today.
However, National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa was conspicuous in his absence.Notably, the media were not allowed to cover the occasion where the local government representatives expressed their views.
Speaking to media, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa said that none of the investigations are legitimate. He also noted:
Before making an arrest, a question is asked in parliament. That is how they decide who will be next. Now questions have been asked about Namal, so he will have to prepare to go next week.”
Former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, was also present at this meeting.
