UNP Central Provincial Councillor W.M.T.B. Warawewa, addressing a conference in Kandy on Friday, criticised the recent actions of the police. The UNP Central Provincial Councillor stated that an independent police commission was established

“Why did they remain idle for 28 years over the murder in Embilipitiya?” he charged and added that it can be understood through this,  how the independently police commission is functioning.

He further stated that the issue is that persons who were recruited to the police force over the past 20 years, are the persons running this, and are not allowing for investigations to continue,  and the AGs Department is also preventing that. But every angle needs to be made independent. So, simply establishing a commission will not make it independent.
