Speaking at a public meeting in Siribopura, Hambantota on Tuesday, Minister of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa expressed strong support for the government.

He refuted allegations by members of the opposition saying:

“This good governance government cannot be subdued nor controlled by your threats.”

Commenting specifically on issues surrounding the ongoing electoral reforms, Minister Premadasa said:

“We are not saying that we are not in favour of implementing the constituent system. But when that system does get implemented, then everyone should be treated equally.”

Stating that his party would not work according to the policies of the previous regime, he stated:

“If major injustices are caused through the separation of constituencies to create more seats within the electorate for one’s own whim; or grant more seats to areas which are disadvantageous to the Alliance or deprive the Alliance of more seats in their strongholds or create electorates in a way the Alliance will garner more votes, then we are not ready to hold this local government election, amid this situation.”
