Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, who did not attend the Executive Committee meeting of the SLFP, visited the Abhayarama Temple. He was among those who attended the alms-giving ceremony for 100 monks to mark the 73rd Birthday of Venerable Muruttettuwe Ananda Thero.

Former president, Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that even though he was invited for the SLFP Executive Committee meeting he couldn’t attend it due to another commitment, and also because he was late when he got there.

When journalists raised questions whether a new party is being formed, he stated that it is “they who want  to contest with him.” He went on to note that all those who supported him were “real SLFPers and not mixed SLFPers.”

Former Secretary of Defence, Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that a new party will be formed and a leadership will be given since there is a need to call for a new party. HE went on to note that there will be no opposition party.

He added that when the time is right everyone will band together to form a new party.
