President’s Counsel, Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has made a request from the IGP to make investigations on the illegal financial pyramid schemes system.

The minister noted that a number of complaints have being lodged with regard to large scale financial schemes.

The minister further adds that persons engaged in these large scale financial schemes are exploiting the financial policies within the country and misleading the public.

The minister has instructed the IGP to take stern legal action against persons who engage in such activities.

In response to the request, the IGP has said that investigations will be launched against those persons, and will be charged on financial fraud litigation.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunesekara noted that a special investigations unit has been set up at the Central Bank to present such complaints. He added that a team of police personnel have been deployed to assist this unit.
