The National Water Supply and Drainage Board states that pumping of water from the Nilwala River has re-commenced.
Deputy General Manager of the Southern Province, Jayantha Pathirana stated that the pumping of water was halted as a result of a leak from an underground fuel tank at a petrol shed.
As a result, the work at the Balakawala, Kadduwa and Nandhugala pumping tanks were halted. The Deputy General Manager said that water supply to areas including Matara were hampered for several hours, after which it was restored.
