The National Zoological Department says that it has decided to commence a programme to protect the endangered species of Sri Lanka.
Acting Director General, Dhammika Malasinghe, noted that the Dehiwala, Pinnawela, Hambantota, and Ridiyagama zoos which come under the purview of the department, will protect such animals.
In the first phase, the Green Leopard, Slender Loris, Golden Palm Civet will be protected. These animals would be sent to the zoos for breeding purposes.
