The Paddy Marketing Board says that the stocks of paddy stored at the Mattala Airport will be removed on Thursday. Five thousand (5000) metric tonnes of paddy is currently stored at the airport storage facilitiy

Chairman of the Board, M.B. Dissanayake said that a kilogramme of red raw rice will be sold at Rs.42. The decision to store paddy at the Mattala Airport came under much scrutiny by a number of factions over the recent past.

Stocks of paddy weighing over 20 million metric tonnes, allocated to be sold to the private sector are still stored at the government paddy storage facility.

The Paddy Marketing Board said that a kilogramme of paddy from this stock will be sold at Rs.38. Earlier a kilogramme of Nadu rice was to be sold at Rs.40. However, owing to the lack of demand, the price was slashed by two rupees.
