At least 17 people have been killed in th series of bomb and gun attacks in central Jakarta, according to Indonesia’s police as gun fire continues in the capitals down town area .The police had stated to media that At least five gunmen were among the dead and another five policemen and seven civilians were killed
An unknown number of people were injured in the security operations at the Sarinah shopping complex on Thamrin Street in the centre of Jakarta
The explosions were reported to have occurred outside the Sarinah shopping centre, close to the presidential palace and UN offices. Accordion to a UN official close to the scene the gunfire is currently ongoing.
Police have said they believe this is a bomb attack. There is no indication yet of who might be behind the assault.
A Reuters photographer said one explosion had been at a Starbucks cafe, with its windows blown out.He said police appeared to be aiming guns at a man on the roof of the building.
