Protesters take to the streets over Ahelagala’s road to distress

A demonstration obstructing the 4th Mile Post area on the Dambulla – Sigiriya Main road, commenced on the morning of  Friday January 8.

The demonstrators stated that that the dilapidated state of the Ahalegala Road, located at the 4th Mile Post area, is causing them severe hardship. The demonstrators also noted that no solution has been given, thus far, to the road which has been damaged for over a long period of time. They also stated that their requests have fallen on deaf years.

Joining the demonstrators were a number of foreign nationals who understood their plight.

Later, Central Provincial Councillor Tissa Bandara arrived at the location, accompanied by the Divisional Secretary of Dambulla M.M. Balasuriya and several others.

Following a discussion, the divisional secretary said that the road will be renovated within a month.
