Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced on Wednesday (January 6), that Netflix has been launched in more than 130 countries across the world. The countries include Sri Lanka, Russia, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

There was concerns on how Netflix can sustain its breakneck expansion as, in addition to its global rollout, the company plans to spend more than $6 billion in cash on programming in 2016, offering more than 600 hours of original series, films and other content. And after running roughly at break-even profitability through this year, Netflix has pledged to deliver material global profits starting in 2017.

However, going global was a bold move from Netflix to address growing skepticism.

“Today you are witnessing the birth of a global TV network.- With this launch, consumers around the world — from Singapore to St. Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo — will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously — no more waiting. With the help of the Internet, we are putting power in consumers’ hands to watch whenever, wherever and on whatever device.”, said Reed Hastings – CEO of Netflix

Netflix will be available for the public on any device that has an Internet connection. For an example; Computers, Smart-phones, Tablet devices, Smart TVs and gaming consoles such as Xbox and PlayStation.

The streaming platform will also provide the best-possible streaming quality to the users based on the available bandwidth speeds.

How Netflix will impact your data usage-

HD stream – up to 3GB per hour
SD stream – between 300 – 700MB per hour
4K Ultra HD streaming – 7GB per hour.
