Avant Garde chairman summoned before presidential commission for statement on irregularities

Chairman of Avant Garde, Nissanka Senathipathi, was summoned before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate into Large Scale Corruption and Fraud (PRECIFAC) today.

Secretary to the Commission, Lasille de Silva stated that the Chairman of Avant Garde was being summoned to the commission to record a statement with regard to certain irregularities said to have taken place at Rakna Araksha Lanka Limited.

Meanwhile, the PRECIFAC also summoned a number of politicians and officers in relation to a large-scale financial fraud that allegedly occurred during the distribution of water filters to kidney patients in the North Central Province. De Silva said investigations are underway into a large-scale financial fraud that is said to have occurred in purchasing of 12,500 water filters valued at over Rs. 134.1 million.

A.S.P. Liyanage, a Colombo real estate businessman, and former ambassador, arrived at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today. Liyanage was summoned to the commission to record a statement with regard to the Peacock Mansion in Rajagiriya.
