A collision between a train and a car at the Halpe Railway Crossing in Kandana claimed the life of a woman, while injuring four others.

The accident took place when a car moved on to the track of an oncoming train carrying fuel from Katunayake to Kolonnawa.

Among the injured were two children aged six years and eight month.

The thirty two-year old mother of the infant, a resident of the Batagoda area in Kandana died in the accident.

She met with the untimely death while travelling in her brother’s car. Police said that the car had moved on to the tracks of the oncoming train, ignoring the warning signs and bells.

Meanwhile, in another accident, an individual sustained severe injuries following a motor accident that took place while crossing the Enderamulla railway track.

Police stated that the accident took place while the signal lights were switched on.
