The driver of a tipper truck, who was connected to a Nelumdeniya accident that took the lives of four along the Colombo – Kandy road, has been arrested.
Police stated that the the post-mortem examinations of the victims will be held on Sunday, December 27. They added there were two women among the four victims aged 88, 68, 55 and 40 as three individuals suffering major injuries are receiving treatment at the Kegalle Hospital.
The police went on to note that a van travelling from Colombo to Kandy had collided with a tipper travelling from Kandy to Colombo near the Nelumdeniya, Udukumbura, Morawaka school around 5:10 a.m.
Explaining further they noted that when the tipper carrying sand had collided with the van, the van had fallen into canal following the collision. Therefore, seven individuals of the same family who suffered major injuries were admitted to the Kegalle hospital where four passed away. The victims were residents from Kalutara.
