The Ministry of Health states that about 70 percent of the deaths that occur in Sri Lanka are caused by non-communicable diseases.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that non-communicable diseases have become a major challenge in the heath services sector.
He added that individuals should refrain from consuming food containing high levels of fat and sugar.
He also informed the public to gift healthy food items such as fruits when visiting relatives and neighbours, in this festive season.
