The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized 225,000 kilogrammes of rice from a warehouse in Orugodawatte that had been packetted in contravention of consumer laws.
OIC of the Special Raids Unit of the Consumer Affairs Authority, Shan Yapa Ratna said that the stock of rice which had been imported from India, had been packed under the label of another popular brand name.
Shan Yapa Ratna said that the expiry date of the rice had been allegedly fraudulently altered to reflect a date which was ten months following the actual date of expiry.
A store-keeper, a contractor and a labourer have been arrested over the incident.
