After a month of debating, the parliamentary affairs of the 2016 budget concluded on Saturday, December 19, after the third reading and the vote.

Following the conclusion of the vote, parliamentarians, from both the ruling party and the opposition, set aside their political differences and gathered at the official residence of the speaker for the official dinner.

The president, prime minister and the speaker of parliament were present at the official dinner.

Members of the ruling party and the opposition too attended the event.

MPs including Dinesh Gunawardena who voted against the budget did not attend the dinner in protest against the budget.

Deputy Chairman of Parliamentary Committees Selvam Adaikalanathan who was not present when the voting for the budget took place too attended the official dinner.
