The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs says that a special team will be appointed to supervise the distribution of a nutritional food allowance to pregnant mothers.
Secretary to the Ministry, Chandrani Senaratne stated that the team will round up each district and divisional secretariat and look into the provision of this allowance.
She went on to note that they have received sufficient financial provisions to ensure the continuity of this allowance.
She added that they have received complaints that some pregnant mothers had not received this allowance from their Divisional Secretariat, and that necessary intervention will be taken accordingly.
She further added that mothers who are eight months into their pregnancy will receive a Rs.2000 allowance per month until their child turns six months old.
Explaining further, she stated that the mothers could receive the food via a supplier from the Divisional Secretariat, as they will continue to provide this allowance to pregnant mothers.
