The body which was found in the shores of Talaimannar on Friday, has been identified to be that of an Indian fisherman.

The body was found  on a sand bar on the shores of Talaimannar and had decomposed beyond recognition. However, the identification of the body was determined by a tattoo on the left arm, in Tamil, which said H. Robina.

A woman residing in Rameshwaran, India named Yemila Pekam identified the body as that of her husband by the tattoo on his
arm.

She claims that the tattooed name on his arm is that of his niece. The victim had set out to sea from Rameshwaran with three others for fishing activities on  November 28.

Fishermen who were fishing close to the waters of the Kachchatheevu Islands said that around 6 that evening, they received a distress call that the vessel of the aforementioned fishermen had capsized.

The owner of fishing vessel stated:

We set out to sea from Rameshwaran to Kachchatheevu and at that instance they informed us that water is seeping into their vessel. When another vessel closest to this vessel requested for their location, they responded that their vessel was completely under water.

Another unidentified body was found washed ashore on the Nilaweli coast on Saturday evening. Police said that an Indian identification was found close to the body.
