Today is the sixth day of the second reading of the 2016 Budget.
UPFA MP, Dullas Alahapperuma stated that:
This morning I visited a supermarket which is the closest to Parliament and Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayke also buys goods from this super market. A kilogramme of Dhal was priced Rs.225 today, and canned fish was priced at Rs.225, a packet of milk power is Rs.325,while 200g of sprats is priced at Rs.310 rupees and that is around Rs.1500.
In Parliament it was said that these new prices will come into effect from midnight. The the Finance Minister said that the prices will come in to effect on the 24th but this bill represents the present situation. I would like to ask, where is the Maithri Chinthanaya embed in….
Minister of Plantation Industries, Navin Dissanayake meanwhile stated:
We will not act according to whims and fancies of the officials because when I was the Minister of Tourism, I was surprised to see that the military was building hotels in Trincomalee.
He went on to note that there are hotels in Chundikulam built by the military, and private security companies were established. And companies like Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Private Limited was by the army while contracts are taken from that and given to Avant Garde.
He went on to question:
Is this the intervention of the government? And added that this budget will put a stop to that.
