The ban imposed on eight outfits and 269 persons for maintaining ties and funding the LTTE has been lifted.
Defence Secretary Karunasena Hettiarachchi said that this decision was made after the organisations and individuals in question were reviewed by intelligence agencies.
The extraordinary gazette notification 1941/44 bearing the relevant amendments has now been released.

However, organisations such as the LTTE, the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation or TRO, Tamil Co-ordination Committee or TCC, World Tamil Movement or WTM, Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam or TGTE, Tamil Eelam Peoples’ Assembly or TEPA, World Tamils’ Relief Fund or WTRF and Headquarters Group HQG are still banned.
