Over ten arrests made over alleged treasure-hunting in Mahawa

Eleven individuals who were allegedly excavating for artifacts in the premises of the Raja Maha Viharasthanaya in Kaballalena in Mahawa have been arrested.

According to the police a van, a jeep, various offerings and a modern scanner have been taken into police custody along with the suspects.

The suspects are residents of Galle, Ampara, Passara, Katuneriya, Kuliyapitiya and Anuradapura.

The suspects have been remanded till December 2, after being produced before the Mahawa Magistrate.

Meanwhile, another suspect who was caught hunting for artifacts using a backhoe machine on the Manalkadu beach in Point Pedro has been arrested. The arrested is a thirty-three-year-old resident of Point Pedro.
