An amusement park in Denmark has been dressed for Christmas with thousands of lights and festive decorations.

Visitors to the Tivoli amusement park in Copenhagen can now see a single tree covered in 12,000 light bulbs, rides covered in lights, 11,000 Christmas trees, 40 kilometres of Christmas chains, as well as Tivoli pixies and an Alpine village. It is all topped with 30,000 Christmas balls to add extra sparkle.

Tivoli, which opened in 1843, is one of the world’s oldest amusements parks. Situated in central Copenhagen it is a popular tourist attraction with a reported 4.5 million visitors in 2014. In the Christmas season alone close to one million people are expected to come.

Santa Claus is also onsite to take wishes from children.

And visitors are greeted with the smell of Christmas, with large amounts of cinnamon tea and Gluck wine expected to be sold over the coming weeks.

Christmas at Tivoli opened on Saturday (November 14) and will run until January 3.
