France appeals for global support to eliminate IS

France's President Francois Hollande delivers his speech during a ceremony to pay homage after a fatal bus crash in Petit-Palais-Et-Cornemps, southwestern FranceFrench President Hollande has called for global coalition to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), following the devastating attacks on Friday.

French air raids continue to target ISIL strongholds in Raqqa, Syria and according to France’s military, warplanes had managed to strike a command centre and a recruitment centre for fighters, earlier this week.

The French President has also stated that he wanted to extend the state of emergency for three months and would meet US President Obama and Russia’s Vladimir Putin in order to “unite our forces to achieve a result that has taken too long”

According to Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack on Friday and has also led to the mobilization of 1115,000 security personnel.

Mr. Cazeneuve also stated that 128 more raids on suspected militants were carried out.

Who are the attackers?

Investigators probing the deadly Paris attacks have so far identified five of seven gunmen and suicide bombers whose bodies were found at three sites across the city, while the hunt is on for others

Omar Ismail Mostefai

One of the assailants have been identified as Omar Ismail Mostefai. A 29-year-old French national who blew himself up at the Bataclan music venue. The suspects identity was confirmed using a severed fingertip found at the site and has been named as one of three attackers who killed 89 people there in the bloodiest scene of Friday night’s violence.

Samy Amimour

Another Bataclan suicide bomber was identified as 28-year-old Samy Amimour from Drancy, a northeastern suburb of Paris who was known to anti-terror investigators after being charged on October 19, 2012 with “conspiracy to commit terrorism” over an attempt to travel to Yemen but was released on bail.

French National Police have issued an arrest warrant for Salah Abdeslam, a Belgian-born French national, who is wanted in connection to Friday’s attacks.The suspect is allegedly directly involved in the attack and is currently on the run. Authorities have described the suspect as as 26 year old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and “dangerous.”

Brahmin Abdeslam

The 31-year-old French national living in Belgium blew himself up outside a bar on Boulevard Voltaire, seriously wounding one person. He is the brother of Salah Abdeslam.

Salah Abdeslam

French National Police have issued an arrest warrant for Salah Abdeslam, a Belgian-born French national, who is wanted in connection to Friday’s attacks.The suspect is allegedly directly involved in the attack and is currently on the run. Authorities have described the suspect as as 26 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and “dangerous.”

Belgium’s government has raised its terror threat level because of the failure so far to arrest Abdeslam, causing Tuesday’s football match between the national team and Spain to be cancelled. A huge manhunt is under way and is believed to have fled across the border to his native Belgium. Belgian police have released more pictures of the wanted man

Bilal Hadfi

The 20-year-old was one of three assailants who blew themselves up outside the French national stadium, killing one person. The bombings were targeting the stadium when France was playing Germany in a football friendly attended by 80,000 fans, including French President Francois Hollande

Abdelhamid Abaaoud

French investigators believe that a Moroccan-origin Belgian Jihadist, Abdelhamid Abaaoud was behind the planning of the attack. The 27 year old was raised in Molenbeek, a district of Brussels known for its many Arab immigrants, blighted by high unemployment and overcrowded housing and is a known associate of Salah.

The alleged mastermind of the attack, Brahim died in the Comptoir Voltaire bar, without killing others, while six other jihadists carried out deadly suicide attacks elsewhere Abdeslam, who is on the run
