A media briefing was convened by heads of the Commission to Investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption on Monday November 16 in order to create awareness on International Anti-Corruption Day which is commemorated on December 9.
However, journalists at the media briefing were keen on gathering information on the work carried out by the Bribery Commission.
Answering the questions raised by journalists, Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe, Director General of the Commission to investigate allegations of Bribery or Corruption, stated that all investigations are being worked on and no case or investigation is being ‘covered up.”
The Director General also noted that the commission is being run by only 50 to 100 officers and that there is no Director of Investigations todate.
When journalists then pointed out that it has been eleven months since the Director General assumed duties and questioned why it has taken so long to fill the vacant positions, she stated that, despite assuming duties eleven months ago, it was only on October 22nd that she properly assumed the position of Director General.
