According to the Met Department, the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal still persists and is now located to the Northeast of Sri Lanka. Under the influence of the system, showers and strong winds over the country and surrounding sea areas are expected to continue.
Showers or thundershowers may be experienced over most part of the country, particularly in the northern half of the country. While, heavy rains of about 150 mm are also likely at some places.
There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers. The Met Department advised the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Kodippili, he Deputy Director of the DMC, said that over 2000 people have been displaced in Jaffna owing to the inclement weather conditions.
