Co-cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, following the special cabinet meeting which was convened at the President’s Office earlier Wednesday stated:

A decision has been taken to revoke all agreements with Avant Garde and to hand those tasks over to the Sri Lanka Navy.

The Special Cabinet Meeting was presided over by President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidents Office on Wednesday evening. All parties involved in this incident were summoned for the meeting based on the decision that was taken on the Special Cabinet meeting that was presided over by the President on the 9th.

Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne stated:

The President convened a clear meeting today and the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy pointed out the repercussions of this arms agreement and also the illegal nature of it.  The President made a decision to revoke all agreements with Avant Garde and to hand those tasks over to the Sri Lanka Navy and the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy agreed to it. He said that the Navy was capable of doing this. Therefore the agreements with Avant Garde will be terminated with immediate effect and the Sri Lanka Navy will take over and continue with this with its own affiliations in the Navy.
