Sri Lanka’s batting made good work of the Windies bowling when the home team smashed 215 while only losing three wickets.

The opening pair managed to stand their ground for 91 runs in 10 overs before Kusal Perara fell for 40 and T.M.Dilshan fell two overs later for 56. Then a fast paced 54-run partnership between Shehan Jayasuriya and Chandimal in 4.3 overs rebuilt the home team’s confidence at the crease.

Shehan Jaysuriya fell shortly, to let Angelo Mathews to step in and put up quick 60-run partnership with Chandimal in just 3.4 overs.

Malinga managed to strike early, picking up Charles, with 133 kph, yorker that banged into the base of middle and Sachithra Senannayake managed to pick up four wickets in four overs. The visiting team West Indies were bowled out for 185.

During the post-match press conference Skipper Lasith Malinga, stated:

During the Pakistan tour, we took a decision to test several new players and I was even criticized for this decision. However we are reaping the benefits of this today. And players like Milinda Siriwardene and Dushmantha Chameera have emerged because of this

He added:

It is impossible to select more than on or two new players for a match. All that can be done is to see whether they can handle the pressure at an international level and the experimentation done in Pakistan has proved vital to the success.

He  noted that new players will be given more opportunity in preparation for the 2020 World Cup

Speaking in regard to his personal performance the right-arm slinger noted that people are of the view that the he’s back in form because of “a few good games”. But in comparison to to the results generated in the past, this is not satisfactory

I don’t think I will be able to reach that peak again because of my injuries,  he said.

However the skipper noted that he will bring his best to the field if the selection committee believes that representing the national side is beneficial for the team.

He added:

The fate of a T20 game could change in one over or one ball and when Sachithra Senanayake bagged two wickets for us in one over ,I believe that it swung the game in our favor.

He further stated:

Milinda Siriwardene also bowled well when Keiron Pollard was at the crease and every player gives his level best out there. But results are difficult to come by because of the conditions we were playing in.
