Politburo Member of the Frontline Socialist Party Kumar Gunaratnam was arrested by the Police on Wednesday.
He was arrested while he was at his mother’s residence in Anguruwella , Kegalle and was taken into the custody of the police on Wednesday morning.
Police have sought the advice from the Department of Immigration and Emigration on the future course of action that needs to be taken.
Spokesperson for the Department of Immigration and Emigration Lakshan De silva says that Kumar Gunaratnam, who is an Australian national had arrived in Sri Lanka on a tourist visa and had remained in the country illegally.
Lakshan De Silva also stated that the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration had ordered the police to take measures to arrest Kumar Gunaratnam.
