During the debate in parliament on Thursday, parliamentarians from the ruling party were continuously interrupted by the opposition.

A tense situation arose when Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe was interrupted by MP Dinesh Gunawardene. Certain opposition party parliamentarians charged that sufficient times had not been allocated for the opposition to express its views at Thursday’s debate.

The opposition stated that not only was there a problem in the amount of time that was allocated, but also a problem in the order of speakers.

Proceedings were adjourned for ten minutes as MP Dinesh Gunawardene took the mace during the debate. However when proceedings recommenced, MP Dinesh Gunawardene expressed his disappointment over the incident.
