Parliament was adjourned for several minutes on Wednesday following a tense situation where a heated argument broke out after MP Bandula Gunawardena made a remark over the name of Minister Ravi Karunanayake

Tensions soared in the parliamentary chambers as MP Gunawardena said that if he was wrong he would resign and the ruling party demanding his resignation as he was proven wrong.

When Parliament reconvened, the Speaker advised the MPs. He said:

This is for the attention of all. We spend 4.6 million rupees per day by convening here and today we have spent almost one hour and 50 minutes and we are yet to touch on the main topics.

He went on to add that the opportunity was provided for all to provide explanations “but please do not take this as a weakness”.
