President grants approval for Trade Union Advisory Committee

President Maithripala Sirisena has granted approval for the establishment of a Trade Union Advisory Committee at national level.

This approval was given  following a meeting that took place between the President and a group of representatives of the Trade Union Collective for a Just Society.

A group of representatives from the Trade Union Collective for a Just Society called on the President at the president’s official residence on Monday evening.

The president’s approval was granted to establish a Trade Union Advisory Committee under the guidance of the president and the leadership of the secretary to the president, and several other ministers.

The President’s Media Unit stated that the discussion also focussed on obtaining parliamentary approval for certain demands made by trade unions.
