The Department of Meteorology says that torrential rainfall is expected in a number of areas throughout the country, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Department announced that heavy showers of about 100mm are also likely at some places. Meanwhile, tw0 individuals have died after being struck by lightning.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that lightning had struck the two individuals while they were in a sugar-cane plot. The victims were aged 24 and 19.
The Met Department noted that 22 deaths have been reported due to lightning strikes in the country, for the year, so far.
Duty Meteorologist at the Met Department Nimal Bandara said that due to the impending inter monsoonal season, there is a higher risk of lightning activity occurring on Tuesday afternoon.
The Met Department warns the public to follow safety measures due to the expected lightning activity.
