Deshabandu Patrick Amarasinghe, the former Chairman of the the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and a veteran industrialist passed away on Thursday at the age of 83.His remains lie at A.F. Remond Funeral Parlour, Borella. The funeral will be at Borella Kanatte on Saturday at  4 PM.

A man of many professions who has been described as an accountant, entrepreneur, exporter, trade chamber leader, nationalist and social entrepreneur, Mr. Amarasinghe ventured into entrepreneurship in the 1970s giving up a steady job in the private sector. He was a founder of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Sri Lanka, the National Chamber of Exporters and the Young Entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka.

He also initiated the Annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards scheme at Provincial and National level and established the non-profit organization – Young Entrepreneurs Sri Lanka in 1998 to empower school children and university students on entrepreneurship.
