News1st received a report today, of a woman in Polonnaruwa, who gave birth to her third child, inside an ambulance.

How did this event transpire?

A mother of two from the Dahathahamara area in Minneriya, was brought to the Hingurakgoda District Hospital at about 1 a.m. on the September 26, as she was experiencing labour pains.

While an ambulance from the Hingurakgoda Hospital was transporting the mother to the Polonnaruwa Hospital, the baby had to be delivered near the Jayanthipura junction as childbirth could not be delayed any longer.

Incidentally, the baby was delivered under light provided by the headlights of a van that was travelling from Batticaloa.

The mother and baby were later admitted to the Polonnaruwa Hospital. News1st made inquiries from the MOH in Hingurakgoda regarding the incident.

We report this story, hoping it will catch the attention of the health minister, so such incidents can be prevented in the future.
