The Department of Archaeology said that an artillery gun known as a cannon, during the colonial era, was found at a hotel project site near the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
Director General of Archaeology, Professor Senarath Dissanayake stated that excavation activities at the site have been temporarily halted. He said that the officers of the Department of Archaeology would commence inspections of the grounds on Monday.
Army spokesperson Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera stated that the cannon was found on Saturday. It is learnt that the cannon is a 25 feet long.
