The media was made aware as to what election system will be used to hold the next local government election

Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils, Faiszer Musthapha said:

The president instructed me as well over concerns of demarcation and there are any issues with regards to that matter, and they should be resolved. Moreover, cabinet appointed a committee with regards to demarcation and to find solutions to the issues, if any, when formulating the electoral system and the stance of the SLFP is that an MP who is responsible for an electorate should be created.

State Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement,M.L.A.M. Hizbullah said:

Because we named Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as our Prime Ministerial candidate, the minority communities did not vote for us and because of that, we, who contested, could not win but now because of the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena, we have faith that the minorities can live freely while safeguarding their own religious beliefs.
