According to the Met Department, there may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers and requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by lightning activity.
The Met Department further states that on the apparent southward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka on September 7.
The nearest towns of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Ampegama, Pitabeddara, Kirama, Bundala at about 12.08 p.m.
Several spells of showers will occur in the sea area off the coast extending from Colombo to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota.
The Met Department further noted that showers or thundershowers will develop in the other sea areas around the country after 2 p.m. and added that the winds will be Southwesterly, with a speed of 20 to 40 kmph.
The sea areas from Mannar to Kankesanthurai via Jaffna will be fairly rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 50 kmph. The sea areas around the country may be very rough temporarily during thundershowers as the winds can reach 60-70kmph .
