An event was held in Vavuniya on September 5 to felicitate the newly-elected members of parliament of the Tamil National Alliance.
Speaking at the event, Leader of the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kachchi Mavai Senathirajah, commented on allegations that have been levelled at his party.
Mavai Senathirajah expressed the following views:
There is talk at present that the ITAK did not ask for an international investigation and that we asked for a domestic investigation. They say our chief minister was also involved in this. He is an expert on the law. There is no way that he cannot understand this. If you look at our manifesto, it states clearly that an international investigation is necessary. From the time America accepted this between 2009 and 2011 and right upto the third resolution in 2014, we were at the forefront of this battle. Some did not join this endeavour. I wish to ask our accuser Gajendrakumar, a question. What agreement did he strike with Basil Rajapaksa over the matter of people who surrendered with white flags? Chandrakanthan and Basil held discussions with President Rajapaksa and sought approval. Chandrakanthan has informed the UN commission of inquiry that they informed these people to surrender with white flags and that they were trapped and killed. This was reported through the media including on Shakthi TV. Chandrakantha was made fearful through this and there was a risk if he remained in Sri Lanka. It is true that in the final stages of the war, a group went to the Wanni and that a group from the LTTE surrendered with white flags. Gajendrakumar says now that this is a lie. In his complaint to the UN, Chandrakanthan has not accused Basil or President Rajapaksa. I ask him why?
